DIY Fall Witch Hat

Apparently buying a witch hat was too easy. So I made one out of cardboard, hot glue, and enough fall leaves to confuse the neighbors ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿง™โ€โ™€๏ธ

What you'll need

Cut the brim

Tie string to a pencil and use it as a compass to draw both circles.

15" / 38.1 cm outer diameter 7.5" / 19 cm inner hole

Build it

  1. Make the brim. Tie a piece of string to a pencil and use it like a compass to draw a large circle on the cardboard.
  2. Cut out the center. Draw a smaller circle in the middle, large enough to fit comfortably around your head, and cut it out.
  3. Make the cone. Roll the poster board into a tall cone. Adjust the shape until you like the height and width, then secure the seam with tape.
  4. Attach the cone to the brim. Make small cuts around the bottom edge of the cone to create tabs. Fold the tabs outward and attach them to the cardboard brim with tape and/or hot glue.
  5. Add the leaves. Starting at the bottom, hot-glue faux fall leaves around the cone, slightly overlapping them as you work your way toward the top.
  6. Cover the brim. Glue more leaves all around the brim, mixing different colors and shapes to make it look fuller.
  7. Finish the top. Add a few smaller leaves near the tip of the hat and bend the cone slightly for that classic crooked witch-hat shape.
